From Fulham we work on projects across Greater London and the home counties. Typical work includes office fit outs and refurbishments, residential schemes and mixed use buildings where noise from traffic, rail, plant and neighbouring uses has to be managed.
We work for developers, landlords, tenants, architects and main contractors, and can join a project at any point, whether that is a planning submission, detailed design, or testing in the final weeks before handover.
Services From Our London Office
Services available to London clients include:
Local Regulations and Planning
In England, sound insulation in new and converted dwellings is controlled by Requirement E of the Building Regulations, with Approved Document E setting out the performance standards and the testing approach. Pre-completion testing is the normal route to show compliance, and our testing is SITRI and SITMA certified. For commercial buildings, clients often set acoustic targets through BREEAM or WELL, which call for both design input and commissioning measurements.
London boroughs frequently attach noise conditions to planning consents, for example limits on building services plant, requirements for façade and ventilation design, or controls on construction noise and vibration. We carry out the surveys and calculations needed to discharge those conditions, using standards such as BS 4142 and BS 8233.
Offices, Fit Outs and Refurbishments
Much of the London market involves reworking existing buildings rather than starting from scratch. On office fit outs we advise on partition and ceiling performance, speech privacy between meeting rooms, open plan acoustics and building services noise, and check that targets in the tenant brief or BREEAM assessment are achieved on completion.
For residential conversions and mixed use buildings, we assess how existing floors and walls will perform, recommend upgrades where they fall short and test the finished units. We also assess noise from new rooftop plant against the limits typically set by the local authority, so equipment can be selected and screened before it is installed.
Recent Projects in London
One of our recent London projects is JTI Offices Putney, where we carried out BREEAM acoustic commissioning, including internal noise level testing, airborne sound insulation testing, building services noise testing and reverberation time verification.
Why Work With a Local Team
Commissioning and pre-completion tests are usually booked late in a programme, often at short notice. Having a team in South West London makes it easier to fit test dates around the contractor and to return if remedial work needs a retest.
Our London staff are also backed by the wider company, so projects that need air quality, climate or environmental input can be handled by one consultancy.
Construction in London is usually close to occupied neighbours, so noise and vibration controls are closely watched. We can install and maintain monitors on site, set trigger levels in line with the agreed limits, and report results to the contractor and the local authority in a clear format.
How to Get a Proposal
Send us the address, a description of the works and any planning conditions or BREEAM credits being targeted. For testing, let us know the number and type of units and when the site will be ready. Contact +44 (0)20 8157 2967 or info@wdacoustics.com for a fee proposal.
If your brief is still taking shape, we are happy to talk through the options first so the scope matches what the project actually needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you carry out Approved Document E testing in London?
Yes. We carry out pre-completion airborne and impact sound insulation tests on new build and converted dwellings in London to Approved Document E. Our testing is SITRI and SITMA certified, and we can advise on remedial measures if a test does not pass.
Can you discharge planning noise conditions?
We prepare the surveys and reports needed to discharge typical noise conditions, such as plant noise limits, façade and ventilation requirements and construction noise and vibration controls, and we can monitor during works where required.
Do you offer BREEAM acoustic commissioning?
Yes. For JTI Offices in Putney we carried out BREEAM acoustic commissioning covering internal noise levels, airborne sound insulation, building services noise and reverberation times. We can provide the same testing on other commercial and education buildings in London.
Which parts of London do you cover?
The Fulham office covers Greater London and the surrounding home counties. Projects elsewhere in Britain, Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland can be supported by our Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Wexford offices, keeping a single point of contact.
