Air Quality Neutral Assessment Services
At Wave Dynamics, we provide specialist Air Quality Neutral Assessments (AQNA) in Ireland the UK and mainland Europe. With offices in Dublin, Wexford, Cork, Belfast and London, and a strong presence in Galway, we support developers, planners and design teams in demonstrating compliance with planning policy and sustainable development requirements.
Our assessments evaluate whether a proposed development is “air quality neutral” by analysing emissions from both building operation and transport activity. We provide clear, evidence-based reporting to support planning applications and ensure air quality considerations are fully addressed at an early stage.
What is an Air Quality Neutral Assessment?
An Air Quality Neutral Assessment (AQNA) determines whether a development will result in a net change in air pollutant emissions, in line with relevant planning guidance and sustainability objectives.
We assess emissions associated with:
- Building energy use and operation
- Transport and vehicle movements
- Combined development-related emissions
These emissions are compared against established benchmarks to determine compliance with air quality neutral standards.
Where exceedances are identified, we recommend practical mitigation measures to improve performance.
Our Air Quality Neutral Assessment Services:
We provide a full range of support, including:
- Planning application support and reporting
- Development emissions assessments
- Building operational emissions reviews
- Transport emissions assessments
- Air quality neutral compliance assessments
- Mitigation strategy development
- Technical reporting for planning authorities
Benefits of an Air Quality Neutral Assessment:
- Supports planning policy compliance in Ireland and the UK
- Demonstrates alignment with sustainable development objectives
- Assesses emissions from both buildings and transport
- Identifies opportunities to reduce environmental impact
- Supports planning approvals and decision-making
- Provides clear, defensible technical reporting
