Project Overview
Wave Dynamics provided acoustic consultancy services for the Bolton Street Hotel development, located at 21–24 Bolton Street in Dublin city centre. The project comprises the construction of a new hotel development ranging from four to seven storeys over basement level, delivering approximately 84 guest bedrooms on a prominent north inner-city site.
The scheme forms part of the regeneration of a former garage site and contributes to the ongoing renewal of the Bolton Street area and surrounding neighbourhood.
Acoustic Consultancy Scope
Our work focused on delivering a comprehensive acoustic assessment to support the design and construction of the hotel within a dense urban environment. Key noise sources assessed included:
- Building services plant – rooftop and basement mechanical and electrical systems
- Hotel operational activity – guest movement, servicing and internal circulation
- Ground floor uses – reception, café and associated public areas
- Urban noise environment – interaction with surrounding city centre activity
Noise Impact & Mitigation
Baseline noise surveys and predictive modelling were undertaken to assess both external noise impacts and internal acoustic performance within the hotel. Particular consideration was given to the proximity of adjacent streets, neighbouring buildings, and the mixed-use character of the area.
A targeted mitigation strategy was developed, including:
- Acoustic screening and control of plant and services noise
- High-performance façade design to mitigate external noise ingress
- Internal sound insulation between bedrooms and communal areas
- Coordination of layout to minimise noise transfer within the building
Outcome
The acoustic strategy ensures that the development delivers high-quality guest accommodation within a busy city centre location while maintaining appropriate internal noise standards and limiting impacts on surrounding receptors. The project supports the delivery of new hotel infrastructure as part of wider urban regeneration in Dublin’s north inner city.

He has lead noise assessments for key clients while thriving in multidisciplinary environments. Jon’s diplomatic communication skills are ideal for stakeholder consultation.
Jack is a Field Engineer at Wave Dynamics, supporting the delivery of environmental monitoring and acoustic consultancy services through detailed on-site fieldwork. He has hands-on experience in noise monitoring, vibration monitoring, and dust monitoring across a variety of infrastructure, construction, and environmental projects. Jack is involved in the setup, operation, and maintenance of monitoring equipment, ensuring accurate data collection in line with relevant standards and project requirements. He works closely with consultants and project teams, providing reliable field support that underpins high-quality assessments and reporting.
Aidan is the Director for all U.K Operations and has worked in multiple industries including for clients in the UK and internationally operating in the residential, industry, healthcare, education, and construction sectors.
