Project Overview
The Thomastown Primary Care Centre is a modern HSE healthcare facility developed under the Enhanced Community Care programme, providing a broad range of integrated primary and community health services within a single purpose-built setting. The development accommodates GP suites, consultation and treatment rooms, therapy spaces, mental health services, and specialist clinical areas such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and dental services, supported by shared reception, waiting, and staff facilities designed to promote efficient patient flow and multidisciplinary working.
Our scope included full building acoustic design services, with a focus on façade acoustic performance, internal sound insulation between sensitive clinical spaces, and room acoustic design to ensure appropriate control of reverberation within consultation, therapy, and waiting areas. Particular emphasis was placed on achieving speech privacy, minimising noise transfer between adjacent spaces, and ensuring a comfortable acoustic environment suitable for both patient care and clinical operation.
The acoustic design approach was developed in accordance with relevant healthcare guidance, including the HTM 08 series, in particular HTM 08-01, which defines performance criteria for sound insulation, room acoustics, and speech privacy within healthcare environments, ensuring compliance with recognised best practice standards.
