Project Overview
Wave Dynamics was appointed to provide specialist acoustic consultancy services for The Johnstown Estate. This included the Forde Suites, The Bedroom Extension, the SPA and Gym.
Scope of Acoustic Consultancy Services
Wave Dynamics provided building acoustic consultancy to support the design, refurbishment, and operational suitability of the venue. Particular attention was given to managing the acoustic interaction between conference suites, wedding and event spaces, leisure facilities, and quieter areas within the estate.
The scope of services included:
- Building Acoustics Assessments for conference suites, function rooms, wedding venues, spa, gym, and associated circulation areas
- Assessment of noise transmission between event spaces and adjacent uses, including accommodation and quiet amenity areas
- Review of wall, floor, and ceiling constructions to control airborne and impact noise from music, speech, and amplified sound
- Assessment of internal ambient noise levels, particularly within spa treatment areas and relaxation spaces
- Review of building services and plant noise, including mechanical systems serving the gym and spa
- Advice on acoustic performance criteria appropriate for conference, events, and wedding venues
- Development of practical and robust mitigation measures to manage event-related and structure‑borne noise
- Preparation of clear, planning‑ and operations‑appropriate acoustic documentation.
All assessments were undertaken in accordance with relevant Irish and international guidance and best‑practice standards for event, leisure, and hospitality environments.

High‑quality acoustics are essential to the success of conference, wedding, and event venues, contributing directly to speech intelligibility, guest comfort, and overall experience. Through targeted acoustic advice and practical solutions, Wave Dynamics supported the delivery of a venue capable of hosting a wide range of events while maintaining appropriate acoustic control throughout the Johnstown Estate.

Jon Maguire (BSc Hons MIOA) brings over 8 years of expertise in acoustic consultancy, specialising in environmental acoustics with a focus on 3D modelling, assessments, and detailed design for industrial, commercial, and energy projects. He has lead noise assessments for key clients while thriving in multidisciplinary environments. Jon’s diplomatic communication skills are ideal for stakeholder consultation.
Jack is a Field Engineer at Wave Dynamics, supporting the delivery of environmental monitoring and acoustic consultancy services through detailed on-site fieldwork. He has hands-on experience in noise monitoring, vibration monitoring, and dust monitoring across a variety of infrastructure, construction, and environmental projects. Jack is involved in the setup, operation, and maintenance of monitoring equipment, ensuring accurate data collection in line with relevant standards and project requirements. He works closely with consultants and project teams, providing reliable field support that underpins high-quality assessments and reporting.
Aidan is the Director for all U.K Operations and has worked in multiple industries including for clients in the UK and internationally operating in the residential, industry, healthcare, education, and construction sectors.
