Noise Impact Assessment

Project Overview

Wave Dynamics was appointed to deliver the Noise Impact Assessment (NIA) for the proposed Lidl Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Cork, a major logistics development supporting Lidl Ireland’s national supply network. The WDScope of Services
  • Preparation of a Noise Impact Assessment for inclusion within the EIAR
  • Assessment of operational noise impacts associated with a large-scale regional distribution centre, including:
    • HGV movements and servicing activity
    • Yard operations and plant
    • Building services and fixed mechanical equipment
  • Contribution to the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), with specific focus on:
    • Construction noise and vibration impacts
    • Identification of potential Short-Term and Temporary Impacts (including SPAs)
    • Development of best-practice mitigation and management measures
  • Liaison with the wider EIAR team to ensure a coordinated and technically robust submission.
Technical Approach
The Noise Impact Assessment was undertaken in line with best-practice guidance and relevant Irish and international standards. The assessment considered existing baseline noise conditions, predicted future noise levels arising from development activity, and compliance with applicable environmental noise criteria.
Construction-phase impacts were carefully reviewed, with Wave Dynamics contributing to the CEMP noise chapter, setting out practical, proportionate mitigation measures to minimise disturbance to nearby noise-sensitive receptors during the construction period.
Supporting Sustainable Logistics Development
Large-scale logistics facilities present complex acoustic challenges, particularly where 24‑hour operations, HGV movements, and automated systems are proposed. Wave Dynamics’ role was to provide clear, defensible and proportionate acoustic advice to support sustainable development while protecting the surrounding environment.
The Lidl Regional Distribution Centre project represents a significant investment in Cork’s logistics infrastructure and employment base. Wave Dynamics is proud to have supported the project through the provision of specialist environmental noise consultancy services.
