Project Overview
Wave Dynamics Acoustic Consultants were engaged on the refurbishment of key conference facilities within Dublin Castle as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency programme, including a conference hall, multiple meeting rooms, and a multipurpose dining space. This project represents a significant milestone for Wave Dynamics, combining complex acoustic challenges within a building of exceptional architectural and cultural importance.
The existing spaces presented a range of technical constraints, including intricate surface finishes, heritage-sensitive materials, and highly irregular room geometries. These factors required detailed acoustic modelling and a carefully considered approach to ensure that performance targets were achieved without compromising the character and integrity of the interiors. The project demanded a high level of precision to successfully navigate the constraints of a protected historic structure.
Close, day-to-day collaboration with an experienced and multidisciplinary design team was central to the project’s success. This facilitated innovative thinking and the development of tailored, non-standard solutions to address the unique challenges presented by each space.
Beyond the technical scope, the project provided valuable insight into Ireland’s construction heritage, demonstrating the ability to sensitively integrate modern acoustic performance standards within a historically significant environment.
