Acoustic Consultancy for High-Intensity Fitness Studio
Wave Dynamics provided acoustic consultancy services for Barry’s Bootcamp, a premium fitness studio located in Dublin city centre. The development consists of a flagship Irish studio for the globally recognised brand, delivering high-intensity interval training in a purpose-designed environment combining cardio and strength training. Acoustic Consultancy Scope
Our work focused on delivering a robust acoustic assessment to support the operation of this high-energy fitness facility within a sensitive urban setting. Key noise sources assessed included:
- Music playback systems – amplified high-energy audio within studio spaces
- Fitness activity noise – treadmill usage and weight training
- Instructor-led sessions – amplified voice coaching and class engagement
- Occupational and breakout noise – circulation areas and class turnover
Noise Impact & Mitigation
Barry’s studios operate within a distinctive “Red Room” concept – a darkened, high-intensity workout space where loud music and instructor-led sessions form a core part of the experience.
Baseline and predictive assessments were undertaken to evaluate the potential for noise breakout to adjacent occupancies. Particular consideration was given to the high sound levels associated with music-driven workouts and impact noise from fitness equipment.
A targeted mitigation strategy was developed, including:
- Acoustic insulation design for walls and ceilings
- Isolation measures for treadmills and gym equipment
- Control of music system output and internal reverberation
- Management of operational noise during classes
Outcome
The acoustic strategy ensures that the studio can deliver its high-energy fitness experience while maintaining compliance with environmental noise criteria for surrounding properties. The design supports the operation of a flagship international fitness brand within a dense urban environment without adverse impact on neighbouring occupiers.

Jack is a Field Engineer at Wave Dynamics, supporting the delivery of environmental monitoring and acoustic consultancy services through detailed on-site fieldwork. He has hands-on experience in noise monitoring, vibration monitoring, and dust monitoring across a variety of infrastructure, construction, and environmental projects. Jack is involved in the setup, operation, and maintenance of monitoring equipment, ensuring accurate data collection in line with relevant standards and project requirements. He works closely with consultants and project teams, providing reliable field support that underpins high-quality assessments and reporting.
Aidan is the Director for all U.K Operations and has worked in multiple industries including for clients in the UK and internationally operating in the residential, industry, healthcare, education, and construction sectors.
